The Marches Growth Hub:

Supporting your business

The Marches Growth Hub has continued its mission to bring the highest quality business support, advice and expertise across the region throughout the last 12 months, successfully increasing awareness amongst businesses.

Official figures for the year ending on March 31 2022 show the hub – the business support arm of the Marches LEP and the region’s premier source of high-quality free business help – has:

  • Supported more than 15,000 businesses over the past year
  • Helped 847 people start a business
  • Staged more than 200 events attended by 6,806 people

  • Helped more than 100 companies access £3.34million in grant support from the four biggest EU-funded programmes operating in the region, creating 234 jobs

A thriving Shropshire design and print company is building for the future thanks to £10,000 of help from a grant programme.

A Hereford business has been able to expand and take on an additional employee thanks to the Marches Growth Hub.

The team can offer advice and support to businesses and entrepreneurs looking to establish a new venture, or grow an existing business.

The Marches Growth Hub – a Marches-wide website and three physical hubs delivered by local authority partners in Hereford, Shrewsbury and Telford – has also played an active part in the delivery of a range of successful campaigns and initiatives over the year.

The Marches KAM programme account managed a total of 29 foreign-owned businesses across the region, bringing to fruition four inward investment projects worth £23million, creating 56 new jobs and safeguarding 30 others.

An access to finance campaign which ran throughout the year saw businesses urged to take advantage of £5million of funding still available through ERDF-supported schemes. It led to a significant increase in take up of funding and support and helped create new jobs across the region.

The Made Smarter programme – a regional collaboration between Midlands growth hubs – helped dozens of manufacturing and engineering companies in the Marches embrace cutting-edge technology and won a prestigious national award for its work.

A Peer Networks Programme also won widespread praise for bringing together more than 20 businesses across three cohorts to share best practice and the hub also launched an interactive funding tracker to help companies track new funding opportunities.

And there was a big milestone at the Midlands Engine Investment Fund – the growth hub’s Midlands-wide partner in helping business secure alternative finance –  which revealed it had now invested more than £200million in the West Midlands.

The success of the Marches Growth Hub is further demonstrated in the number of businesses who turned to its website to access support and funding. Figures show that there were more than 28,000 visits with 18,761 unique visitors and more than 82,000 page views.
